Echoing Silence: A Journey into Holy Listening

This June, I am stepping into a sacred journey of stillness — two silent retreats, one for five days and another for three. Together, they form an eight-day space of listening for God’s voice.

But I’m not going alone. I want to invite you to join me — right where you are.

Echoing Silence is a five-week contemplative practice that invites you to enter into holy listening. Each week, we’ll explore a new way that silence echoes through our lives, and we’ll gently increase the time we spend in silent prayer, from 5 minutes to 30 minutes.

It’s not about achieving perfect silence or control. It’s about making space for God’s voice — quieting inner noise, disrupting outer noise, flowing with distractions, letting silence fill our spaces, and ultimately, resting in the mystery of God’s presence.

The Weekly Journey

Week 1: Quieting (Inner Noise)
We’ll learn to release the racing thoughts and distractions within, letting them drift by like boats on a river.

Week 2: Disrupting (Outer Noise)
We’ll create simple, sacred spaces amid the noise of life — turning down the volume of the world to listen for God.

Week 3: Flowing (Between the Noise)
We’ll practice letting silence flow through and around distractions, learning to carry God’s peace even when the world is loud.

Week 4: Permeating (Noise with Silence)
We’ll bring silence into the spaces we inhabit, letting God’s presence fill our homes, our work, and our hearts.

Week 5: Sitting (God’s Mystery)
We’ll simply sit in God’s presence, resting in holy listening and trusting that God meets us in the quiet.

How to Participate

You’re welcome to move at your own pace:
Join us for silence each Sunday.
Choose your own day each week.
Or practice the week’s silence daily.

There’s no pressure — only invitation. Whether you sit for five minutes or thirty, once or many times, you’re practicing the art of listening for God’s whisper.

Why Echoing Silence?

In a world filled with noise, busyness, and constant demands, silence becomes an act of resistance. It’s a way of saying:
I will not be mastered by distraction.
I will listen for the still, small voice of God.

Echoing Silence invites you to practice being present, resting in God’s love, and discovering that silence is not empty — it’s full of God’s presence.
