Sacred Rest Series

Sacred Rest: : An Invitation to Breathe Again

For Black women who carry so much—expectations, burdens, dreams, and grief—rest is often the thing we postpone, spiritualize, or simply never get around to. But what if rest isn’t a reward? What if it’s a rhythm of healing? A holy resistance? A sacred necessity?

The Sacred Rest series invites you to exhale. Rooted in the stories of Zechariah, Elizabeth, Mary, Joseph, Anna, and the birth of Christ, this Advent and New Year series reminds us that rest is not about inactivity. It’s about presence. God’s presence. Your presence. The presence of joy, hope, and wholeness—even in a weary world.

Why This Series Matters

We often talk about peace during Advent, but many of us enter December feeling far from still. The holidays bring pressure, expectations, and exhaustion layered on top of an already full life. For Black women especially, there’s often no space to just be.

The Sacred Rest series offers a counter-cultural path.

This is not a countdown to Christmas—it’s a call to stillness. A call to return to yourself and to God.

Each episode explores a unique way rest shows up in Scripture—not as luxury, but as legacy. We reflect on silence, surrender, trust, community, worship, and communion—all as pathways to deeper rest for the soul.

This is rest that whispers to your spirit:
“You don’t have to do it all to be worthy. You already are.”

The Heart of the Journey

This series unfolds over the Advent season and into the New Year, offering soul care to help you pause, reflect, and receive:

  • The Rest That Waits in Silence – honoring the in-between spaces where we trust even when we can’t speak (Zechariah)
  • The Rest That Surrenders to God’s Yes – releasing control and making room for God’s plan (Mary)
  • The Rest That Trusts When It Doesn’t Make Sense – stepping into obedience even when the road is unfamiliar (Joseph)
  • The Rest That Comes from Belonging – finding strength in sisterhood and sacred connection (Mary & Elizabeth)
  • The Rest That Worships Through the Unknown – making space for joy and awe in the presence of Emmanuel (Anna)
  • The Rest That Communes With the Divine – receiving Christ’s presence as both miracle and sustenance

These aren’t just biblical moments—they’re invitations to come home to yourself. To pause. To breathe. To be with God.

Inside the Series

Sacred Rest: The Gift of Communion
Anna, again (Luke 2:36–38)
Rest deepens when we remain rooted in God’s presence and connected to His people.

Sacred Rest: The Advent of Silence
Zechariah and Elizabeth (Luke 1:5–25)
When God answers with a hush instead of a shout, we learn how sacred waiting can be.

Sacred Rest: The Advent of Surrender
Mary (Luke 1:26–38)
Real rest begins when we say yes to God—even when it disrupts our expectations.

Sacred Rest: The Advent of Trust
Joseph (Matthew 1:18–25)
Resting in God’s plan requires releasing the need to understand every step.

Sacred Rest: The Advent of Community
Mary & Elizabeth (Luke 1:39–45)
We don’t rest alone. There is healing in holy friendship and shared joy.

Sacred Rest: The Gift of Immanuel
Jesus Is Born (Luke 2:1–7)
God draws near. Not through noise, but through the hush of a manger and the quiet of night.

Sacred Rest: The Gift of Worship
Anna (Luke 2:22–38)
Rest finds us when we choose worship in the face of waiting.

Soul Care Invitation

Give yourself permission to rest without guilt. Ask yourself:

  • What am I carrying that God is asking me to lay down?
  • What if rest is how I return to my truest self—not a break from life, but a way of living it?
  • Where is God inviting me to pause, trust, and receive?

Rest is not a luxury. It is sacred. And you are worthy of it.
